With the NHL playoffs starting and hockey being Mr. Verhoven's favorite sport... it was only fitting to have a playoff tournament! The students who make it too the finals will get a hot lunch, and the title of NHL Playoff Champions of Div. 3! Who will make it to the top this year!?
Most of our students snaileries came in yesterday! Thank you to the families for their support with this project. Yesterday, students had the opportunity to check up their snail up close and personal. Using magnifying glasses and measurement tools, students observed and documented their snails appearance and behaviour. Check out these photos from the afternoon!
As a wrap up to learning about energy and simple machines in Science, students created their own arcade games made entirely of recycled materials! On Tuesday afternoon our classroom was set up like an arcade and students had the opportunity to try each other’s games!
Today in Science we created Oobleck! Students conducted their own experiment, making predictions, observations and creating tables! It made a BIG mess but it was so much fun! Ask your child if Oobleck is a solid or a liquid! It may surprise you!
Today, we had the privilege of having aboriginal support worker Lynn come in our classroom to teach us about her Inuit background and the art of carving soap stone. Students had the opportunity to shape and carve their own tea light holder. Check out the photos below!
Students have completed their Create Your Own Island Projects! In this project, students designed and created their very own island in British Columbia. Like much of B.C., their islands were rich in natural resources! Students constructed their islands by using many different and creative ways! Lego, Minecraft, clay, and cake were just some of the creative items students used!
We had a very fun and eventful October 31st in our classroom! Students started the day with a science experiment- making OOBLECK! Students had to make predictions, document their observations and perform different tests on their oobleck. After lunch we watched "Charlie's Chocolate Factory" and indulged in some yummy snacks!
Last Thursday, we tried a new thinking routine in our class! Students were given a shape already outlined on a piece of paper. Their task was to complete the picture in order to create something original and new! Check out some of the creations below!
